Pianos we've worked on, from cottage uprights to concert grands

William Young Pianos is a family business, with over 30 years’ experience in the piano trade. We are proud to offer our clients a genuine choice between older restored pianos and more modern second-hand instruments. We can also supply new pianos, hand-selecting our choices to ensure that our clients receive the best possible instrument to match their needs with their budget.

We are delighted to offer the very best second-hand reconditioned Yamaha pianos available, all personally selected from the premier UK importer’s vast warehouse. William Young Pianos is also proud to sell new Hailun and Danemann pianos, both specially chosen by our experienced staff to represent the best quality and value for money available for our clients.

We have an excellent selection of pianos available to view and play by appointment.

We pride ourselves on sourcing the right piano for every client, whether that’s a period restored grand or a more contemporary second-hand Yamaha U1. Top name pianos including Steinway, Bechstein, Blüthner and Bösendorfer can be sourced to meet clients’ specific requirements and fully restored to order. Click here for more information on our restoration services.

Delivery can be arranged throughout the UK and Europe, and with low overheads and a commitment to excellence, we will not be beaten on price! Our in-house tuners and technicians ensure that we can tune and maintain your piano throughout its long life.

To complement our pianos, we also offer piano stools. From restored vintage models upholstered in calico ready for your own fabric, to modern stools with a wide variety of styles, finishes and fabric options, we’ll help you find the right stool for your piano.

Our key rings are hugely popular inexpensive gifts for musicians, made in-house from reclaimed piano parts. Truly something for everyone – and of course all of our restored options chime perfectly with today’s focus on sustainable and low-waste shopping!

Where are we?

We are now operating from new, larger premises in the beautiful Devon village of Kentisbeare near Cullompton. Work is well under way to create a beautiful space to showcase our workshop and range of pianos.

Frequently asked questions

What are the differences between buying a New and a Restored Piano?

We all think differently when it comes to the new or used question. As a rule of thumb, second-hand is generally better value for money for comparable quality pianos, but many people still prefer to know that their piano is brand new. Because we sell both new and used pianos and restore pianos ourselves, we will not try to influence you either way. Instead, we'll take the time to find out what your needs and preferences are and make suggestions as to the best choice to marry your requirements with your budget.

How long does a piano restoration take?

Full restoration can take several months, especially factoring in waiting for parts. Smaller jobs can often be completed within a week or two, again dependent on availability of parts and materials. Some small repairs can be undertaken in situ, but the majority of work, and all proper restoration jobs, will need to be undertaken in the workshop.

How often should I have my piano tuned?

Domestic pianos should generally be tuned once or twice a year. Concert pianos require tuning before rehearsal and before the performance itself, due to heavy playing, moving and the heat of stage lighting.

Where can I buy a piano stool?

We always have a number of second-hand piano stools in the workshop - if we don't have what you're looking for, please ask as we may be able to source it for you. We can also supply brand new stools, from basic box student models to deep buttoned concert stools. A variety of finishes and fabrics is available, as well as bespoke options for matching coloured pianos.
