Kemble Classic Upright
Project details
Bill has a particular affinity with small modern Kemble uprights; as he remembers learning how to tune on an upright piano similar to this one, and many of us recall this model from childhood and school lessons.
The finish of this piano had been quite badly affected by various spillages over the years. This much loved gift from our client's late mother was in need of a facelift. We were tasked with bringing the piano back to how it would have looked straight out of the factory, if not better. The old polish was stripped off, and the wood sanded and stained to unify the colour before polishing. New felt and highly polished brassware really finished the look, a final stage which is often forgotten but makes a huge difference to a piano's appearance.
The client was delighted with the transformation, writing, "Don't tell anyone but I may have cried a little bit - Claire was a present from my late mother (she is named after her) and I've not seen her look like this since I was a child. Thankyou so, so much." A perfect example of how important a part of family history a piano can be. We are very proud to have been able to bring Claire back to her former glory!
